Finishing touches on the editing + tiny issue!
Finishing Touches!! My partner, Aden, came over today and we reviewed the editing I had finished and decided that a few changes needed to be made! For one thing we changed our approach with the master shot walkthrough to be split and cutting out of my dog. We did this we realized today that it was inaccurate to have the dog in the cage while Ella’s supposed to be outside with her. In addition, it gave the viewer more time to read the note. Another difference to note was we lowered the volume of our footsteps for the foley of me walking inside after taking out the mail. My partner noted that it is unrealistic to have the footsteps be that loud since the camera is so far away. Besides that we recorded a different scream for the ending. We needed it to be abundantly terrifying and it wasn’t. So… after a few re-records we landed on one that we liked! Overall, these little touches definitely ended us on a film opening we LOVED. And I’m so happy we made them! Here’s a few pictures so you can see what I’m talking about!
Here is where we cut the master shot to strobe from the coffee and homework setting to this list.
Here we lowered the foley of the footsteps to create something more realistic!
Here’s where the glass clink and scream fade to black!
THE ISSUE So, following doing filming for the first few shoots we discovered that the pool was leaking. This was an ISSUE. We still had to complete the shot of myself walking in from taking out the dog. And this pool was EMPTY. Following this realization, we knew there was nothing we could actually do to fix this continuity issue. Although we do know!! If we could in a major motion picture, the pool would have obviously been filled! This was super disappointing for us, but nonetheless, was not fixable.
