Sound!

Image
Sound!         HORROR! In my last blog post I discussed the intricacies of our first filming session! Since then we have had 2 filming days total. And a continuing pattern Aden and I have found is a NEED for more sound. What is an essential aspect of horror? Sound! So, today I will be discussing the different choices of diegetic and non-diegetic sound that we will pay considerable attention to for our film opening.      To begin with, going into this we knew a considerable amount of non-diegetic sound would be needed to push the audience to understand the tone we are working to convey. However, let’s first begin with diegetic sound. For instance, from our very first shot we saw that the scream in our shot could not be capture at its full volume in the scene. Therefore, we will be overlaying a sound of screaming from a high quality mic that really captures our character, Ella, is feeling! This is an example of diegetic sound that we will be h...

Day 1 of Shooting

Image
Day 1 of Shooting!!!      Aden and I just finished our first day of filming!! What a tough day! (And it’s only the beginning!!)   Believing that it would take a few moments to set up the shots today but we were proven EXTREMELY WRONG. After trial and error we found that the shot we wanted to take today was…. the ending shot! We believed it would show us how we would set up the rest of our film opening! Here is a picture of us on set while filming our ending!  For starters, Aden and I’s further plans to continue our filming later on. We planned to have our second day of filming today, although a short one, today February 19, 2024. After this, we will get together again to film even more on Saturday February 24, 2024. We are hoping to take the establishing shot and shoot where we go through the door and pan so the viewer may see a full viewer of Ella’s house.     5 stills of our TERRIFYING ending ! When it comes to the audio and video of this scen...

Supporting Characters

Image
Supporting Character & Props      Welcome back to our story! Previously we have talked our main character, Ella. Today, we will discuss the different aspects of our supporting characters and props. To begin, its established early on that none of the supporting character our shown. Although, their existence is clearly known by our audience. Our main antagonist, his hand is the only thing shown to the audience at the end of the opening. We did this to really show to the audience the mystery of the foreshadowed events. The use of the black glove showing the darkness that the antagonist prompts in the film.       Other characters NOT shown in the film include the Mom and Dad as well. It is known that the mother and father are very disconnected from Ella. They leave only an important list of things she must accomplish, with no other then this communication from her parents. This prop list is extremely important to the film because it foreshadows how ...

Color

Image
Color        Time for COLOR THEORY!  For Aden and I our project is a horror movie! So, our color pallets will DEFINITELY be dark and horrifying for the majority of our short film. The particular aspects of mis-en-scene, using specific props and colors in the scene to convey a terrifying tone to the audience. Our main color scheme will be a regular middle-class put together house including some browns, whites, grays, and blacks. However, these are mainly going to be the backgrounds shown to the audience, These are not the main thematic color we are striving to include in our film opening.      So, to start off! The use of colored costuming will mostly be included in the LACK of color in the character. Showing a sense of lackluster that the main character is lazy as she feels unloved and unappreciated. Pushing the reader to relate and care for the main character. Ella’s neutral color tone really proves very important telling much about her as...

Main Character Analysis

Image
Main Character Analysis       In our story our main character is Ella! She is portrayed by me in this project. Now, regarding physical characteristics she is 5 foot 4 inches tall, blonde hair, green eyes, and is age of 16. I will be wearing relaxed clothes: a pair of sweatpants and a long sleeve shirt with my hair in an updo like a ponytail or low bun.      To note, as of right now there aren’t any props associated with the main character, however, a staple of our short film is the list of chores left by the parents out of town. The parents left the list on the fridge full of daily chore. The list she returns to it a few times and uses it as a guide to do what she needs to do.      Since we laid the foundation to our main character, Ella. For starters, the way that she dresses is important to the character. Ella’s costuming implied that she is comfortable and carefree in the way she conducts herself. Especially, at this momen...

Costumes!

Image
COSTUMING! Costumes are super important to how we present the characters to the audience! Especially, because we aren't including tons of dialogue since the main character is home alone. After careful consideration, Aden and I decided what specific features of our ideas with costuming. To begin, for our main character she will be putting her in regular everyday house clothes that one would wear when they get home from school. Her hairstyle will be up in a low ponytail. These will be provided from my closet as I play the character, sweatpants and the long sleeve will be my outfit. Aden will be playing the killer, and we will obtain his costume from party city. However, since the only thing showing is his black glove, that is all we will purchase to save money.  We chose these specifics for the costumes to show the realism we would like to display to the audience. Really to provide a this could happen to anyone this could occur to anyone in their lives. Further scaring the audience ...
