Creative Critical Reflection!!

Image
Creative Critical Reflection! Hi! My name is Carey Joyce and I am in 10 th grade in the Cambridge program and throughout this year I developed with my partner Aden Mangones the film opening ALONE. To start off, I will begin with discussing how our products challengs uses common horror genre cliches and how represents differen social issues. I would say that going into this project we really looked at so many of the classic horrors such as Scream, The Shining, etc. Going into this we knew it was super important that through this film opening we hooked our readers. So, to do this we PLAYED into the genre. How? The ominous music, dark ambiance, and the unsettling angles. All of this was super important to us in the way we used the conventions of the genre to work FOR us. However, I would say that despite playing into the conventions considerably. An angle we didn’t use purposefully were any extreme close ups. We wanted to always keep a stalking distance between the victim and killer... u...

Final Group Dynamics

FINAL GROUP DYNAMICS     Previously! I had discussed in brief how Aden and I split the work in this film opening project. Today, I will discuss more about how we split the work catering to our specific expertise in this project. While, also, splitting this work perfectly evenly!!! In this blog post, I will write 3 different lists. One will be on what I did seventy-five percent of. The other will be what Aden did seventy-five percent and what we did both did together. In our project, I did the majority of the editing and foley because that was simply excited to learn more about that aspect of filming!! However, Aden took the lead in directing and participating in composition aspects in the film. Obviously, we really worked cohesively through this whole process and helped each other whenever the other need any help. But the majority of the time, we participated in our own skill sets. And everything was split evenly!! What I did 75/25:  - Foley: Since Aden was in UF an...

Doing the foley!!

FOLEY      WHEW!!! Let me tell you this was an experience. My wonderful partner, Aden, was on a trip to the University of Florida today. So I took the opportunity on my day off to work on our foley sounds! And, despite the distance, Aden has been SUPER helpful through encouragement and ideas for my foley recordings. Now let me get down to this PROCESS.      Starting with the recordings of the me walking outside talking out the dog. The footsteps were honestly a struggle. It seems extremely simple, just hit the shoes on the ground. On the contrary, you have to TIME these sound bites. Through trial and error, I used my IPAD to see the video and recorded the audio clip with my phone stepping on the concrete outside. You will see in the final product the mimicked steps. Aden will also go back and edit my foley to find anything out of sync I might have missed!      Next, I recorded new sounds for the door creaking and sliding coming inside ...

What inspired us!!!

Image
INSPIRATION!!      What inspires us!! Practically everything in life is based from some type of idea, concept, or experience! In our case we took inspiration from classic horror movies that shaped the way we created our film opening. For instance, the classic horror SCREAM ! Scream has one of the most iconic film openings that we really loved and felt we had connected quickly to the movie. The whole classic girl home alone inspired us to create something similar but with our own twists and turns. The setting of a high class home we took definitely took inspiration from in this movie.  Another movie we took inspiration from was The Shining (1980) the main killer “Here’s johnny!”. Even though you don’t physically see our killer in our film opening. The main killer in the shining was definitely a big inspiration of how we saw our main killer as a raging psychopath. That would have been shown later in the movie if we had finished it ourselves!  The majority o...

The problems with our editing software…

Image
EDITING SOFTWARE UPDATE      Previously, we have mentioned our editing software being HitFilm. This proved to be a MASSIVE set back…As we worked on editing the film we ran into major issues with this software. For starters, the program was not user-friendly in my opinion it was complicating the entire process with its slow software. On top of that, half of the options that weren’t even offered in the free version as they said it would be. I even had to pay 99 cents to use one of our higher quality insert shots. For these reasons… we SWITCHED softwares.      I know what you are thinking WOAH it’s a little too late for that. But it really wasn’t. After weighing the positives and negatives of switching our softwares Aden had pointed out it was very clear we were causing headache where it could easily be avoided. SO… we are using cap cut!! This software is much faster and easier to use the Hit-film. I had been able to negate half of my work time con...
